We think even more people would play the new "Call of Duty" video game
if it meant you would eventually get to the Megan Fox level.
The "Transformers" beauty makes a surprising cameo appearance in the
new trailer for "Call of Duty: Ghosts," the latest installment in the
highly successful military video game series.
But this isn't your average celebrity cameo-for-the-sake-of-cameo: According to Variety,
Fox was brought on board the "Ghosts" trailer because the game marks
the first time you can play "Call of Duty" as a female soldier in the
multiplayer mode (and, as we all know, your average female soldier in a
video game kind of looks like Megan Fox
Fox isn't the only
Hollywood talent connected to the new trailer, as "The Wolverine"
director James Mangold called the shots on all the ka-bang and ka-boom
(and, in the case of Fox, the va-va-voom!).
The trailer, which has enough gunfire and explosions to fill a dozen
teasers for Hollywood action flicks, features four gamer pals shooting
their way through a ruined Las Vegas (eerily set to Frank Sinatra's "I'm
Gonna Live Till I Die," as if the ghost of the famed crooner is
serenading the fallen Sin City from beyond the grave). One of them
almost gets whacked by a stealthy enemy, but luckily a gun-toting Megan
Fox saves the day.
Video games have certainly come a long way. Hey, "Pac-Man" never had a
trailer with a multi-million-dollar budget shot over seven days by a
major Hollywood director on the Warner Bros. backlot, at a spa in the
City of Industry and at the Burbank airport.
In May it was reported
that "Call of Duty: Ghosts" would be supported with one of the largest
marketing plans ever bankrolled by its publisher, Activision, or any
other video game developer, for that matter. "The competitive landscape
will likely require us to further increase our sales and marketing
investments for our three largest franchises [Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
and PC], especially in the important holiday season," Activision CEO
Eric Hirshberg told investors at the time.
It's big business: "Call of Duty" is a billion-dollar business played
by over 100 million gamers a year, and the buzzed-about "Ghosts"
promises to increase their profits even more.
As for Fox, hey, at least she's working, as the actress hasn't been
the most prolific movie star ever since she was dumped from the
"Transformers" franchise and replaced with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in
the third installment, "The Dark of the Moon" (2011). Since then, she's
only appeared in "Friends With Kids" (2011) and "This Is 40" (2012) —
though, to be fair, during that time she also gave birth to her first
child, Noah, born Sept. 27, 2012.
Megan Fox isn't the only movie star to make a random appearance in a trailer for a "Call of Duty" video game. Robert Downey Jr.
appeared in the trailer for last year's "Black Ops II" ("Guess who
brought a jet to a gunfight"), which was directed by his "Sherlock
Holmes" pal Guy Ritchie. Sam Worthington and Jonah Hill teamed up as 'The Vet' and 'The Noob,' respectively, for 2011's "Modern Warfare 3" trailer.
"Call of Duty: Ghosts" hits store shelves on Nov. 5. Meanwhile, Megan
Fox will next be seen as savvy news reporter April O'Neil in "Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles," opening Aug. 8, 2014.
